Today

Boerne Together invites the public to a candidate forum for BISD board candidates and Boerne City Council candidates at 7 p.m. tonight at Boerne Middle School North auditorium. The forum is sponsored also by Boerne Association of Texas Professional Educators with the League of Women Voters and Boerne Classroom Teachers Association. Early voting begins April 28 and everyone is encouraged to attend the forum. For details, call (830) 537-4050.

The Fair Oaks Ranch Homeowners’ Association invites Fair Oaks residents to a candidate forum for city mayor and council candidates at 7 p.m. tonight at the Fair Oaks Ranch City Council Chambers.  This “Meet the Candidates” event is sponsored annually by FORHA.  

Election day is May 10 with early voting running from Monday to May 6.  For details, call the FORHA office at (210) 698-2225.

Boerne Community Theatre Teen Troupe will present a treat for the family for one weekend only. Tim Kelly’s “West of Pecos” will delight young and old. The show runs today to April 27. Hours are: Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Judge Roy Bean, “The Law West of Pecos,” has decreed that Orin Powers must hang for shooting up a poster of his beloved Lily Langtry, the famed frontier actress.

The sentence has the town of Langtry, Texas, in a stew and the cast of 22 local teens brings the wild, wild west to Boerne. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths 18 and under. To reserve seats, call the box office (Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon) at (830) 249-9166.

Friday

Boerne Public Library will provide a magic carpet to the exotic Far East at 6:30 p.m. Friday when dancers from the Arathi School of Indian Dance perform. In existence for more than 25 years, the Arathi School of Indian Dance provides instruction in Bharathanatyan and Indian folk dances. Bharathantyan is the most ancient of classical Indian dance and also the most commonly practiced dance form in South India.

Kendall Soil & Water Conservation District sponsors a fish sale for local landowners. Fish orders can be placed at the district office, 39350 Interstate 10 West, Suite 8, between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Fish will be delivered to the Junior Livestock Barn on May 2. Bring paper feed sacks to transport your bags of fish. Call, e-mail, or come by for information and price sheet. Plan to pay in advance. Species available this year include catfish, blue cat (supplies limited), bluegills, hybrid bream, minnows, red ear and largemouth bass. Triploid grass carp are available, but can only be purchased with a valid Texas Parks and Wildlife permit.

Saturday

Leon Springs Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p. m. at the Leon Springs Dance Hall, 24135 W. Interstate 10, in the parking lot (Boerne Stage Road exit, across from Rudy’s Barbecue). Vendors offer plants, herbs and a variety of edibles, from fresh produce to honey, nuts, breads, jams and jellies. Sunday

Bicyclists can take part in the Fair Oaks Afternoon Ride, starting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fair Oaks Ranch Center. Mileage varies. Call (210) 698-6625 for details.

Saint Mark Presbyterian Church offers “Financial Peace University,” a program to help families attain financial independence. The church is located at 208 W.
