It’s Fiesta time in San Antonio, and the Clark High School marching band helped bring life to the tradition with their eighth annual Family Funday Sunday on Sunday. The event started with a short parade (the shortest parade in Fiesta) featuring the Mighty Cougar Marching Band accompanied by members of the Hobby and Rawlinson middle school bands, the Leon Springs Elementary Rockin’ Recorders, the Cougar Color Guard, the Clark High School Spanish Club, the Locke Hill Elementary choir, the Alzafar Shriners, the Mounted Warrior Calvary Scouts, Scooby Doo and a royal court of adorable puppies and the Sports Clips mascot. “The crowd was great! They really helped because they cheered us on the whole time,” said freshman Ryan Collins, trumpet player in the Cougar Band. Following the show, the crowd moved into the school’s middle courtyard. Once inside the courtyard, one could enjoy a wide variety of activities; including, but not limited to, painting your hair wild, festive colors; watching one of the elementary groups perform inside; learning everything about your family history from one of the historians in attendance; listening to the middle school bands perform solo; or playing some of the fun and wacky games the band had set up. One of the most prestigious of the day’s festivities was the United States Air Force Drill Team from Washington, D.C. The official Fiesta event, which included a silent auction, doubled as a fundraiser for the Cougar band.
