Head Softball Coach Jennifer Fox will be leaving Boerne High School at the end of the school year to take the head coaching job at the new NEISD high school opening next fall.

Krystal Clare, the junior varsity coach at John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio, has been hired to take over the Boerne program when Fox departs.

Clare is a UTSA graduate with a background in club and select softball. She played at UTSA and was an assistant at Trinity for three years before joining the staff at Stevens.

“She’ll help with volleyball and she’ll take over a very good softball program,” Boerne Athletic Director Stan Leech said.

“Coach Fox has just been tremendous in taking us from where we were to where we are now. She’s just done a great job.”

Fox says her move was prompted entirely by family considerations.

“It’s called Johnson High and it’s only about four miles from my house,” Fox said.  “My husband and I want to start a family, and with the opening of Boerne- Champion High School it just seemed like the right time to move on. It’s been a really tough decision. I don’t like to talk about it too much around the girls because I don’t want them to think I’m looking forward to anything else.”

When Fox took over the Boerne softball program in 2002, it had never won a playoff game. Her 2005 squad reached the regional quarterfinals, and her 2006 team was a regional finalist.

In 2007, she guided the Lady Greyhounds to the Class 4A state championship. This season was considered a rebuilding year, but the team is once again in the playoffs with an overall record of 20-13-1.

“I’m very proud of that record, but it’s not just me,” Fox said. “It’s been every single kid who’s ever played for me and put up with everything I put them through. It’s been about their hard work and dedication, and lately we’ve had a lot of really talented kids that have come in. It’s been fun and I’m very proud of it.”

In addition to coaching softball, Fox also coaches freshman volleyball and teaches health and physical education.

Her husband, Jason, is head baseball coach at Marion High School in Guadalupe County.
