Applications ready for Randolph transfer students

Application forms for students wishing to transfer to the Randolph Field School District for the 2008-2009 school year are now available.

The forms can be picked up at the administrative office on Perimeter Road and will also be available through the district’s Web site – www.rfisd.net. They must be filled out, signed by both parent and student, and returned to the administrative office along with required information including a copy of the student’s last report card, attendance record and conduct information.

Transfers will be accepted under guidelines approved by the RFISD school board Trustees in 2001 and amended in 2002 and 2006. The number that will be accepted will be on a grade level space available basis, after which a waiting list will be kept for any future openings.

The 2006 amendment affects kindergarten through fifth grade children of retiring military personnel. If the children were enrolled in Randolph Elementary School on or by April 1, 2006, they will be allowed to continue under a grandfather clause. However, in the future kindergarten through fifth grade students of military personnel retiring during the school

Superintendent Billy Walker said the transfer policy was initiated in order for the district to maintain its staff and programs through the time period of housing redevelopment on Randolph Air Force Base which is projected to take several years. Without the transfer policy to help compensate for the loss of students because of a lack of base housing, significant funding losses from the state and federal governments would be experienced.
