Volunteer cooks (from left) Herb Danmier, Ron Murphy, Lem Sinclair, Alfred Garza and Russell Rust prepared 300 chicken halves to serve the crowd. They started barbecuing at 4 a.m. on Sunday for the noon meal.

Barbecued chicken, potato salad, beans and dessert were served to the attendees.

A variety of desserts were offered during the fundraiser at the Pleasant Valley School

Students who trekked to the Pleasant Valley School early in the last century never enjoyed a hot lunch, but the barbecued chicken dinner prepared on the grounds on Sunday will ensure the building continues to nurture the community. People waited in line to be served.
