Thanks to ‘Greens’ for their council representation

I’d like to thank J.B. Richeson, Guillerma Contreras and Alina Matutes-Eckhardt for all of the hours the three of them spent over the past two years on council and all of the work they’ve done the past year under constant fire from Tom Schoolcraft and Rich Whitehead while representing the citizens who elected them.

It appears the ebb and flow of politics in Helotes has not been favorable to the Green team for the past two elections and I think the complete credit for that goes to our local (newspaper), the Echo. The spin on facts and the way they chose to present the Green candidates on every issue that came before the council over the past year showed a complete resentment allowed by the publisher for her husband’s oust from council by the Green candidates three years ago. Unfortunately, a lot of folks still think that if it’s in print, it must be true because newspapers operate by a certain code of ethics. They haven’t a clue.

(The Echo has) made a mockery of Helotes, reporting on our government process as though it’s a soap opera of entertainment, nicknaming and slandering the incumbents and leaving issues of importance out of the paper if it was in any way favorable to the work of the incumbents. They went to great lengths making it appear that the Green candidates were a divisive issue on council when in reality they were constantly fending off personal attacks by Schoolcraft and Whitehead.

But how many out of the 1,700 or so voters have ever been to a council meeting to see Tom Schoolcraft and Rich Whitehead in action? You could probably count them on one hand. The complete disrespect for the two women on council was undeniable and reprehensible.

We won’t see that in the future because Ms. (Cynthia) Massey has always been supportive of Schoolcraft.

Remembering that when the new council is seated the entire council will have been majority funded by out-of-town developers, not by citizens and homeowners in Helotes.

Lorraine Castillo, Helotes
