Clemens one-act play wins state title Clemens High School’s one-act play, “Moon Over Buffalo,” won the state 4A UIL championship. Taylor Johnson won awards for Best Actor and the prestigious Samuel French Honor. Donna Dean was named to the All-Star Cast and Katherine Foerhkolb was named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. This marks the first time that a campus in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City School District has won state in one-act play competition. Welding student wins state title Judson High School student Rudy Guerra won the Texas SkillsUSA State Welding Skills competition, held April 2-5 in Corpus Christi. Guerra competed against the top 12 high school welders from across the state in a grueling four-hour event. He will represent Texas at the National SkillsUSA Conference June 22-27 in Kansas City and compete with the country’s best for the national championship title. Steele dance team members chosen Steele High School students recently competed to make the Steele Medallion Dancers team. The girls were judged on dance ability, split technique, high-kick technique, upper-lever skill ability, presentation, and showmanship. Of the 29 who tried out, 18 were chosen: Veteran team members are Alexa Boring, Jill Caudill, Heather Compton, Mary Katherine Crenwelge, Megan Donahue, Tiffany Miller, Holly Palmer, Julie Schlather and Kelsy Yarborough. Rookie team members are Morgan Brown, Breanna Burton, Lauryn Deering, Kelsey Garner, Kayla Speaker, Stephanie Jones, Cayla Sartain, Molly Whitmire and Gabby Zabawczuk. Chosen as officers for the Medallion Dancers were Boring, Crenwelge and Donahue. Judson band takes on the Big Apple Judson High School Rocket Band had the honor of performing April 19 at Carnegie Hall and the Statue of Liberty in New York City. The highlight of the night was when the band played a special rendition of “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” Last October the Honor Rocket Band was invited by the Choice Music Events selection committee to perform at Carnegie Hall. The band was also invited to perform at the Statue of Liberty. The Judson band was one of a few select ensembles invited to participate in these prestigious events. The 250-plus-member band, led by director Dana Pradervand, consistently receives superior ratings at UIL marching and concert contests in addition to numerous honors at nationally-recognized festivals and events.
