By Mike Reeder Contributing Writer Boerne High School coaches are once again offering a full range of athletic skills camps for area youths this summer. Camp fees vary according to sport and in most cases include T-shirts, refreshments and various other awards and prizes. Application forms with additional details are available at the high school or can be downloaded on the school website at www.boerne-isd.net. Coach Stan Leech’s boys’ basketball camp and Coach Joey Cantu’s Champion Charger Tennis Boot Camp lead off the summer camp schedule, with both camps getting under way June 3. Basketball camp features separate sessions for students in grades K through secont, third through sixth and seventh to ninth. Tennis Boot Camp will be limited to 32 incoming freshman and high school tennis players. Cantu will also host a regular tennis camp July 21 to 25 for players ages 9 to 18, with participation limited to the first 64 players to sign up. Charger Football Camp runs June 9 to 12 and is open to students who were enrolled in first to eighth grades this year. Head Football Coach Danny Threadgill and his staff oversee what is always a heavily attended football camp with the assistance of former players. Girls Basketball Coach Jonathan Tate will be conducting camps June 9 through 12 for players in grades K to ninth, with the focus on fundamentals and team work. Coach Chuck Foster’s summer baseball camp runs June 16 through 19 and includes a beginner’s camp for ages 5 to 9 and advanced sessions for players ranging in age from 10 years old to entering freshmen. Coach Troy Errington’s volleyball camp also runs June 16 to 19, with a middle school session for players entering fifth through eighth grade and a separate session for entering freshmen. John Ross, the associate head volleyball coach at San Diego State University, will host a preseason camp for Boerne high school players July 28 to 31 at Reagan High School. Coach Humberto Atilano will host a girls’ soccer camp at the Boerne football field June 16 to 19 with assistance from former Lady Greyhound players. The camp is open to all girls entering second through ninth grade. Coach David Rogers conducts his annual boys’ soccer camp at the football stadium June 23 to 26, with camp open to players from age 6 to entering freshmen. The high school cheerleaders will hold a spirit camp for girls age five and older June 9 to 12 at Boerne Middle School South. Campers will learn chants, cheers, stunts and dances and will march with the cheerleaders in the annual BergesFest Parade. The new Boerne Champion dance team will also host a four-day camp June 23 to 26. Campers will learn the Boerne fight song and perform at a football game in the fall.
