Fun in the Summer Sun: Bountiful Bugs! 9 to 11 a.m. Calling all kids! Join us for an in-depth look into the world of bugs and other arthropods. We’ll discover what makes an insect an insect, learn about their amazing adaptations, check out bug parts in microscopes and head into the field with nets to capture grasshoppers, beetles, dragonflies and more! Meet at the Amphitheatre in the Day Use area.

Stories in the Stars: 8 to 10 p.m. Start your weekend off with a fun-filled look at the night sky. We’ll set our sites on Saturn, the constellations of summer and learn about the stories of heroes, villains and princesses that adorn the night sky. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Saturday

Honey Creek Hike: 9 to 11 a.m. Join a trained interpretive guide for a walk through the beautiful Honey Creek State Natural Area. You’ll learn about the cultural and natural history of the area and enjoy the beauty of Honey Creek during this enjoyable 2-mile walk. Meet at the Rust House. This program is sponsored by The Friends of Guadalupe River & Honey Creek. A donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is requested.

Kids in Nature: Critters Great and Small. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Join us for a look at all kinds of critters, from reptiles and amphibians to mammals and birds. Learn about their wondrous adaptations and how they survive the rigors of life. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Exploration Station: 2 to 4 p.m. While you are at the river, make sure you stop by the Park’s canopy-covered Exploration Station. Check out the skulls, skins, skeletons and other artifacts and visit with the Park Interpreters.

Saturday Night Speaker Series: Night Watch. 8:30 to 10 p.m. Join our Park Interpreters for a walk into the night as we explore the mysteries of the dark. From blinking fireflies to the eye shine of spiders, raccoons and more, you’ll discover who wakes as we head for bed. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

June 20

Fun in the Summer Sun: Who Goes There? 9-11 a.m. Join us as we search for signs of critters in the woods and fields of the park. From tracks and scat to homes and the animals themselves, you’ll learn what to look for when the animals aren’t around. We’ll head outside in search of their traces and end the morning by dissecting an owl pellet! Meet at the amphitheatre.
