A San Antonio man was apprehended without incident by the San Antonio Police Department June 18 in San Antonio in connection with an aggravated armed robbery that took place on June 13 at the Leisure Time Game Room in Bulverde.

Jerry D. Clark, 37, was taken to Bulverde Police Headquarters, and after being questioned by investigators signed a written statement that allowed a warrant for his arrest to be issued.

He was transported to Comal County Jail and was charged with a first-degree felony. Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Susan Devorak set Clark’s bond at $100,000. If convicted, Clark could be face up to 99 years in prison.

Another suspect, Ray Vargas, 35, was arrested in San Antonio Tuesday by U.S. Marshalls in connection with the robbery on June 13 of the Leisure Center in Bulverde and placed in the Bexar County Jail.

A third suspect, Clark’s girlfriend, drove the get-a-way car and is providing information to the police.

“Vargas is the mastermind and ringleader of the trio,” said Bulverde Police Sgt. Steve Simpson.

According to police reports, Clark entered the establishment and asked for change. When the clerk refused, he pulled a gun and shoved her into an adjacent room. He then pulled a knife and cut the change apron from the woman. Two women bystanders, age 63 and 68, tried to intervene but were shoved away at gunpoint.

“The suspect shoved the gun into the chest of one of the women, pushing her back, and shoved the other into some furniture,” said Simpson.

Clark then took an undetermined amount of cash and fled the scene in a maroon sedan driven by an unidentified woman.

Bulverde Police Lt. Gary Haecker said Clark had been arrested before on drug related charges and has a history of addiction.

“The weapon he used was a BB pistol purchased the day of the robbery,” he added.
