June 29 at Main Plaza Music resounded through downtown Boerne, the aroma of hot dogs and sausages wafted through the air and military personnel mingled with supporters at Main Plaza on Sunday evening as Boerne honored its adopted military unit, the 338th Military Intelligence Battalion from Camp Bullis. The unit will be deploying to Iraq in the near future. “The city of Boerne has done a very powerfully positive thing and the soldiers will carry it with them for a long time,” said Lt. Col. Frederick A. Francis, battalion commander. The party was sponsored by the city of Boerne, the Boerne Chamber of Commerce and the Boerne Convention and Visitors Bureau. The BergesFest court turned out to spread cheer and serve the evening’s fare of hot dogs, sausage wraps, potato salad and all the trimmings. Donations still are needed to send care packages to troops already deployed. To donate, call Kerry Phillip at (830) 249-8000. Photos by David Basarich
