Hill Country Women’s Connection, in association with Stonecroft Ministries, invites everyone to a luncheon 10:30 a.m. to noon on July 10 at Fair Oaks Country Club. Fiddler Jeffery Rosenbaum, 9, accompanied by his teacher, Bobby Rogers, will entertain. Guest speaker will be Phyllis Robinson of Georgetown. July 12

Boerne Library’s Mini Book Sale is slated for July 12.

Hundreds of books ranging from mystery and fiction to biographies and history will be available for sale at bargain prices. Children’s books will start at 20 cents each. Paperback books are 50 cents each and hardcover books generally start at $1 each.

The book sale is sponsored by Friends of the Boerne Public Library, comprised totally of volunteers, who hold the mini sales four times a year in addition to the annual three-day book sale the first weekend of March.

The books are those donated to the Boerne Library throughout the year and those that have been taken out of circulation at the library.

Sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Library Annex (old Boerne Star building) at 282 North Main St. (Main at Lohman).

July 15

Boerne Village Band, the oldest German-American Band in the world, offers Abendkonzerts (evening concerts) in the summer months. The remaining 2008 performance dates are July 15 and July 29. Concerts are held at Boerne’s Main Street Plaza gazebo at 7:30 p.m. Drinks, tapes and CDs are available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs or other seating. Donations are welcome

Aug. 16

UTSA’s annual Alumni Gala is set Aug. 16 beginning at 6:15 p.m. This is a signature fundraising event for the UTSA Alumni Scholarship Fund. This year’s gala, Reflections, will recognize the 2008 Alumnus of the Year and recipient of the Distinguished Service Award along with special recognition for past Alumnus of the Year and Distinguished Service award recipients during an evening that includes a silent auction, dinner and dancing to Newsboyz. The gala will be held at the Westin La Cantera Resort, La Cantera Parkway at Interstate 10 West near Loop 1604 North. Friends of Guadalupe River and Honey Creek invite everyone for a special hike 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays through Honey Creek State Natural Area. You’ll learn about the cultural and natural history of the area, the early German immigrants, and witness firsthand the beauty of spring-fed Honey Creek. Donations are requested for this special hike. A donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is welcomed. Leon Springs Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p. m. at the Leon Springs Dance Hall, 24135 W. Interstate 10, in the parking lot (Boerne Stage Road exit, across from Rudy’s Barbecue). Vendors offer plants, herbs and a variety of edibles, from fresh produce to honey, nuts, breads, jams and jellies. Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation in Kendalia seeks volunteers to help all orphaned and injured native wildlife who need caring hands – animals who would suffer or die if Wildlife Rescue and its team of staff and volunteers were not there to save their lives.
