More than 950 registered GVTC cooperative members packed the New Braunfels Civic Center to participate in the company’s 53rd annual membership meeting on June 25.

In his address, Chairman Chuck Knibbe reported that GVTC is in excellent financial condition and had disbursed a record $4.96 million in capital credit checks.

Knibbe also updated the audience on GVTC’s $35 million, five-year fiber optic upgrade plan that will bring cable television and broadband services to about 75 percent of the membership.

To assure the success of this venture, Knibbe urged the members to take advantage of the new services being offered to them.

GVTC’s by-laws mandate the board periodically review the number of directors that represent each district and reapportion representation when necessary.

District 2, which represents Bulverde and Spring Branch has experienced extraordinary growth in recent years and had been under-represented.

To adjust, two directors positions from District 5 in the Cost, Rocky Creek and Westhoff area will be moved as their terms expire, one this year and one next year. As a result, District 2 will be represented by five directors and district 5 will be reduced to two.

Members elected Clint Swindall to fill the first additional District 2 position. George Steinke is the new District 1 director, which represents the Sattler and Hancock areas area. The District 1 vacancy was created by the recent passing of L. Charles Billings, who passed away in April and served on the board for 20 years.

The members also re-elected incumbents Jamie Arnold, District 2, Harry Klar, District 3 and Howard Morrow (by acclamation) in District 5.

Each GVTC director serves a three-year term.

The 2008 annual meeting also marked the retirement of Bill Lott from the GVTC board. Mr. Lott had served District 5 for 32 years.
