Dear Editor, Shame on the mayor and City Council for failing to back Terri Hall in opposing the toll road project! How could they not know that the projected cost when expansions and overpasses for a freeway were planned in 2003 was $100 million, which has gone up to $170 million today? How could they not know that the toll road will cost $1.3 billion to build? How could they not know that a toll road will take four years to complete, compared to 1.8 years for the freeway? How could they not know how this will disastrously affect everbody in our area who travels along Highway 281 for any reason, not to mention how it will hurt businesses and take property away from landowners? And why did the mayor initially refuse to let Terri speak at the council meeting? Why does he “have to consider all aspects before taking a position”? Why do Jim Binkley, Rob Hurst and Michelle Mitchell “need time to study the matter?” And why doesn’t Pam Cole know the difference between a toll road and a freeway? Terri Hall is the expert on this subject and was there to educate the council. She has done hours and hours of research and has produced valid documentation that TxDOT has committed criminal acts to coerce us into believing that toll roads are better than freeways. Our illustrious City Council is too busy forming committees to force home rule down our throats when we voted against it last year instead of trying to save us money. And, they’re trying to get water from a company in California when we have a perfectly reliable source of water right here in our county. If these people are the “leaders” of our community, God help us. Babbie Migl Bulverde
