Special to the Northwest Weekly It’s not official, but Northside Independent School District may be named a Texas Recognized District because of student success on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. NISD staff review of data also indicates that 15 schools will be named Exemplary; 45 will be named Recognized; and 23 will be named Academically Acceptable. In other news from the July 22 school board meeting, employees will get a $400 or a $200 retention stipend for returning to Northside ISD. All employees who work full-time will receive $400, and all employees who work part-time (and receive benefits) will receive $200. To qualify for the retention stipend, employees must have been hired on or before Feb. 1, 2008, and must be returning to the District for the 2008-09 school year. Temporary employees do not qualify for the retention stipend. Trustees also approved a guaranteed maximum price of $5,792,492 for the site package for “Alamo Ranch area” MS. The price includes $117,624 to install a turn lane that is being required by the City of San Antonio and Bexar County. The middle school will open in 2010. The Northside School Board has been selected as the Region 20 Honor Board and now advances to the state level for Texas Honor Board recognition. Trustees approved the following appointments to administrative positions: De’Ann Upright, was named principal at Powell Elementary School. Oswaldo Garcia was named vice principal at Connally Middle School. Laure Rasor was named assistant principal at Connally Middle School. Adolfo Garcia was named vice principal at Jefferson Middle School. Julie Franco was named assistant principal at Jefferson Middle School. Valentine C. Flores was named assistant principal at Neff Middle School. Aracely Garcia was named vice principal at Rayburn Middle School. Angela Cano Sampson was named vice principal at Rudder Middle School. Christine Rather was named assistant principal at Zachry Middle School.
