We wanted to take a moment to express our great appreciation for the recent story on veterinary house calls by Jonathan Nolte.

- What a nice surprise to read a story about our family vet, Whitney Orlando.

- Whitney does indeed provide exceptional care for the pets fortunate to be on her list.

- Through wise counsel and great compassion, she serves their owners just as well.

- She is a refreshing departure from the typically low level of service routinely seen in this modern world.

- On behalf of the pets who’d rather see their vet come to them in their own yard, we offer a sincere thank you!

Have you ever driven around our local community and viewed a realtor’s sign in someone’s yard that is not from the Boerne area? Or how about seeing someone you know driving a brand-new Chevy, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, or Mercedes from a dealer that is not from the Boerne area?

In today’s economic environment it is more important than ever to shop and buy locally. Communities such as ours depend on local support.

Our local businesses support our community with wages and taxes, not including all of those charities, youth sports, stock shows etc. that they contribute to as well.

Most of us already support “all things local” whenever possible. But for those who don’t, it’s your time to help, especially now.

If you are a business owner, join the local Boerne Chamber of Commerce. This should be a no-brainer for anyone opening a new business locally.

Those who are in business locally should support other local business people as well.

We all want what is best for Boerne and the surrounding area and when we support each other, we all win.

The next time you see someone with an outside Realtor’s sign in their yard or someone driving a new vehicle they could have bought locally, remind them the reason their taxes are going up or the reason they can’t find a job locally just may have been preventable.

San Antonio is finally paying the bill for the rampant abuse of lax zoning laws by developers and politicians.

We have turned against the land. The deep irony in all this development gone wild is that it is antithetical to the rural ethos that is the essence of our Texas heritage and identity.

As T. K. Whipple, wrote in “Study Out the Land” “we live in the civilization our forefathers created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream.”

Our heritage and identity is quickly becoming unrecognizable as we pave over everything that made Texas unique in all the world.
