Thursday

Leon Springs Business Association will hold a luncheon meeting Thursday at Scenic Loop Cafe from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Speakers from San Antonio River Authority and SAWS will discuss water conservation and flood control projects in the Leon Springs area. Saturday

Leon Springs Farmer's Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. across the street from the Leon Springs Dance Hall, 24135 W. Interstate 10 (Boerne Stage Road exit,next to Rudy's Barbecue). Vendors offer plants, herbs and a variety of edibles, from fresh produce to honey, nuts, breads, jams and jellies. Cibolo Nature Center’s Songs & Stories Concert Series is set Saturday at 7 p.m. at the CNC Outdoor Stage. Admission: CNC members $7.50; non-members $10; seniors over 65, $5; children under 12, free. Lost Mule Band, a CNC favorite, will perform. This group plays a wide spectrum of music, including rock, rhythm and country and provides perfect dancin’ and a fun-loving approach to music. Named for their high school mascot from Alamo Heights, these guys have been playing together for more than 25 years.

Boerne Parks and Recreation will be hosting Patti Sullivan on Saturday on Main Plaza from 6:30 to 9 p.m. as part of the 2008 Summer Scene. Patti's music is a flavorful gumbo that tickles the taste buds. Raised by a jazz guitarist dad and a folk-singing mom amidst the mirth of Beatle music, acid rock and Motown, Patti's early influences are broad-ranging. Nominated "Female Vocalist of the Year" for the 2008 Texas Music Awards with her new release, Peace of Mind, Patti soars. Patti is an active member of the Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians.

Aug. 30 and 31

Sisterdale Trade Days offers a weekend of arts, crafts, food and fun in beautiful downtown Sisterdale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trade Days will also occur during the last weekend of every month. Interested vendors should call (830) 431-0050.

September

Boerne Public Library, during the entire month of September, will be taking in non-perishable food items in lieu of fines for overdue books. For every dollar you owe, you can bring in a box or can of food. If you owe 75 cents then you need to bring in one item; if you owe $5.75 then you need to bring in six items. This program is not for those who owe money only on damaged or lost materials. All food that is collected will be delivered to Hill Country Family Services.

Sept. 5

Grey Forest Farmers Market is held 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. the first and third Friday of each month at a new location on Scenic Loop Road, across from the Grey Forest City Hall and next to the Fire Department at the corner of Scenic Loop and Sherwood Trail. Shop for fruits, jellies, veggies, eco-tote bags, plants, pecans, peaches, breads, cookies, note cards and locally produced goods of all types.

Sept. 8

Boerne Parks & Recreation’s Community Ed program will be starting up again for the Fall/Winter session. Dog & Puppy Manners classes will be starting in the evenings Sept. 8 and will continue through Oct. 6. Marlene Ring of PAWSative Solutions will be instructing the class and will give you and your dog an opportunity to work together as a team, and set the stage for a rewarding and fulfilling relationship. Sept. 9

Boerne Public Library’s fall computer classes are set to begin in September. Classes are set on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. Those who are interested in taking evening classes can come on Thursdays, starting Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. Each weekly class lasts about an hour and a half. The classes are on a first-come, first-served system, so be sure to sign up about 15 minutes before class each and every week. Those who have taken classes twice before are no longer eligible to take them. Stop by the library to pick up a complete schedule.

Sept. 18

American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Gala is set 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at Ranch at The Rim, 18007 Interstate 10 W (in front of Bass Pro Shop). Local celebrities and cancer survivors will model the latest fashions. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets are $50 and include wine and hors d’oeurves.
