Concerns about the potential effects of Hurricane Ike convinced school officials to cancel both the varsity and junior varsity tennis tournaments scheduled over the weekend along with all scheduled sub-varsity volleyball games. Fans should consult the school Web site at www.boerne-isd.net or call the high school athletic department at (830)-357-2850 for information on possible rescheduling. Volleyball The Lady Chargers were looking to even their district record at 1-1 when they hosted Clemens Tuesday night, after the View had gone to press. Champion dropped its district opener to New Braunfels Canyon Friday night in Boerne. The Lady Chargers won the first two games against the Cougarettes 25-23, 25-17, but lost the next three games and the match by scores of 16-26, 24-26, and 13-15. The men’s and women’s varsity cross country teams kept their season-long winning streaks alive with a pair of first-place finishes Saturday at the Running on the Warpath meet in Ingram. Ethan Doherty finished first overall in the men’s race and Melissa Jones led the Boerne girls with a second-place overall finish. Both varsity teams will be racing Saturday at 9 a.m. at the UTSA Invitational. Tennis The Charger varsity tennis teams played a district match at Clemens Tuesday after the View had gone to press. The team got off to a strong district start in Kerrville last week with an 18-0 sweep of the Tivy Antlers. The Chargers will be home again Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. district match against Seguin at the Champion High School campus.
