With all of the conveniences available today, why do we still have to make that nagging trip to the grocery store to pick up the necessities for the week?

We know all too well that the one trip often turns into additional trips for that forgotten toothpaste or toilet paper. And how many of us stick to the proverbial “shopping list,” instead buying many other items that eventually add up when it comes time to check out?

Thanks to Kirby residents Amanda and Shane Eastman, Air Force veterans and entrepreneurs of Grocery 2 Me, those trips can be extinguished.

Shane credits his wife, Amanda, with “masterminding the idea” for Grocery 2 Me after hearing her coworkers complain about the inconvenience of trips to the grocery store after work.

Amanda brought the proposal home to her husband, who said he thought, “this doesn’t look unreasonable.” After planning and research, the two embarked on a journey that opened a world of convenience to the residents of San Antonio.

Commencing in March, the couple started with one client, a friend of theirs. They are now seeing their clientele increase at a rate of growth that equates to about two new customers per week.

Amanda remains employed full time as a registered nurse, while Shane, now in the Air Force Reserves, works full time with the business.

Having your groceries delivered seems great, but how much does the service cost? The convenience just sounds expensive — surprisingly, orders ranging from $0-$200 are delivered at a flat rate of $20; after the $200 mark the rate raises slightly, at about 10 percent of the order total.

For this, groceries are purchased and brought to your doorstep. If you are home, they are unpacked onto your counter.

“A key part of the business is the insulated totes,” Shane said. “They keep items cold and frozen, even if the delivery is five hours after the shopping trip.”

Grocery 2 Me even provides prescription pick-up out of their base store, the H-E-B at U.S. 281 and Loop 1604. All of the shopping is done at H-E-B, a loyalty that comes “out of a personal choice, based on quality and value,” he added.

Creating an account at grocery2me.com is quick and simple, much like registering for an e-mail address. After registration, a master list is available, full of commonly ordered items that you can add to your shopping list, or delete completely.

Forget something? The memory jogger tool is a list of common items that you may forget (like that annoying toothpaste or toilet paper you used to go back for). Customers can even add more items to their order if they forget an item, and have it delivered the same day.

Now if only Grocery 2 Me could do laundry and prepare dinner …
