By Mike Reeder Staff Writer The Boerne Samuel V. Champion football team has no time to waste feeling sorry for itself after its 50-20 whipping in Kerrville. Instead, the Chargers will need to regroup in a hurry with arch-rival Alamo Heights coming to town Friday night. The Mules are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in district after beating Clemens 35-3 last week and boast one of the most potent offenses in the region. Boerne is 3-1 overall and 0-1 in district, and does not want to fall into an 0-2 district hole. Heights quarterback Drew Allen, a University of Oklahoma recruit, threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns against the Buffalos. Heights will still be missing standout running back Sergio Acosta, who is serving a three-game suspension for an off-the-field incident, but his absence shouldn’t fool anyone into thinking the Mules can’t run the ball. Against Clemens, fill-in running backs Justin Rosenthal and A.J. Lewis combined for 195 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. For Boerne, the big question is how the Chargers will respond after their embarrassing loss to Tivy. “One loss isn’t going to determine whether we’re in the playoffs or not,” Charger Head Coach Danny Threadgill said. “How we respond to adversity is how we determine what kind of team we are.” “We’ve just got to take this adversity and jell together as a team,” Charger center Kevin Peet said. “We have six more games. Our main goal is to get in the playoffs, so we’ve got to come back, do whatever we can and fight.” “We’ve really got to get our heads back in the game and get focused,” receiver Miles Albrecht said. “We need to kill Heights,” defensive back Drew Roumelis said. “We need to take out Heights this week. That’s my response.” The Chargers get the chance to back up their words with action when the game kicks off at 7:30 Friday night in Boerne.
