Boerne Parks and Recreation is taking reservations from groups wishing to be in this year’s Boerne Christmas parade on Dec. 6. Grey Forest Farmers Market is held 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. the first and third Friday of each month at a new location on Scenic Loop Road, across from the Grey Forest City Hall and next to the Fire Department at the corner of Scenic Loop and Sherwood Trail. Shop for fruits, jellies, veggies, eco-tote bags, plants, pecans, peaches, breads, cookies, note cards and locally produced goods of all types.

Saturday

Leon Springs Farmer's Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Leon Springs Baptist Church, 24133 Boerne Stage Road, behind HEB.

Messiah Lutheran Church's annual Oktoberfest is Saturday. Oktoberfest is an old-fashioned celebration from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. Entertainment will include: The Boerne Village Band, Fire on the Mountain Cloggers, arts and crafts booths. Messiah Sowers will have their handmade quilts available to purchase. There will be games for the children and the Oktoberfest Train will be available for rides. There will be a Quilt Raffle as well as a Silent Auction. Homemade sausage and sauerkraut, green beans, potato salad, iced tea, coffee and desserts (alternative meal available for children) will be served beginning at 4 p.m. Dinner tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children (ages 5 to 12). Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort will hold its annual Mexican supper and fiesta on Saturday at Comfort Park Pavilion on Texas 27. Supper will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prices are $8 for a large plate and $6 for small plates.

San Antonio Police Department is holding a barbecue fundraiser for the SAFFE Unit and Citizens On Patrol 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Antonio Police Department’s Prue Road Substation, 5020 Prue Road. Barbecue plates, $6, include brisket, sausage, beans and potato salad. Soft drinks and water will be available. To-go plates are also available. Orders of 10 plates or more can be delivered. Tuesday

National Night Out is Tuesday and Boerne Police Department encourages neighbors to come together Tuesday evening by hosting an evening gathering in their neighborhood or on their block. The annual event is designed to encourage neighbors to get out and meet each other. Typical events include a casual barbecue or picnic, ice cream social, dessert potluck or other simple gathering in the driveway or front yard.

For those neighborhoods that register in advance, a Boerne police officer will attend the gathering and provide fingerprinting for children as part of the Child Identification Program. The Boerne Police Department will also provide fresh watermelon to add flavor to the gatherings. Boerne Fire Department personnel will participate if available.

Cibolo Nature Center offers “Landscaping for Birds and Butterflies” 8:30 a.m. to noon. Cost: $15 for CNC members and $20 for non-members; registration required; call (830) 249-4616; limited to 20. Local native plant and landscape experts Patty Leslie Pasztor and Janis Merritt will demonstrate how to create habitat for wildlife and invite butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden.

Oct. 11

Grey Forest Open Studios Art Show, a non-profit organization, will be held noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11. Ten gardens and studios will be open for the public to view original art created by the 23 participating artists. A wide range of work will be exhibited: Photography, sculpture, inspirational glass mosaics, oil paintings, comic book art, bird houses, gourd vessels, spirit figures, hooked rugs, canvas floor cloths, jewelry, functional pottery, eco-friendly tote bags, note cards, botanical vessels, mosaics, collages, mixed media assemblages and exotic hardwood crafts, drop spindles and heirloom spinning wheels, penny rugs, yoga tote bags and didgeridoos. Admission is free and open to the public.

Kendall County Aggie Moms will hold a garage sale Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kendall County Abstract parking lot, 103 N. Saunders. For details, call Rosemary Fisher, (830) 981-8175.

Oct. 16

Cibolo Arts Council presents the Fall Festival of Arts and Music Oct. 16 to 19 in downtown Boerne. The event will be held at the historic Ye Kendall Inn and Boerne’s Main Plaza.

The festival officially opens on the evening of Oct. 17 with music, art and appetizers in the courtyard of the Ye Kendall Inn with tickets available in advance. On Oct. 18 there will be free entertainment all day with music, theater, art and good food.

On Oct. 19, come out and enjoy a little free jazz with your brunch at the Ye Kendall Inn Courtyard. By invitation, a special wine tasting dinner and art auction will be held at the Ye Kendall Inn on Oct. 16. For information or to receive an invitation, call (830) 816-1796.

Oct. 18

American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Gala is set for 7 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 18 at Sunset Station, 1174 E. Commerce, San Antonio. The western-themed gala is American Cancer Society’s largest local fundraiser. The evening includes entertainment by Steve Wariner, Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Party, live and silent auctions. The Rotary Club of San Antonio at The Dominion will be holding its annual Wild West Day charity fundraiser on Oct. 18 at Enchanted Springs Ranch, 2.8 miles west of Boerne on Texas 46, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Events will include Wells Fargo stage coach rides, gunfighters and bank robbers, a Kids Corner with video games and other attractions, tractor wagon rides through the Wild Animal Park and an old time photography studio. The event will benefit many children’s charities and organizations that support our military men and women.
