Gilbert Lee Downey beloved husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord Saturday. Born May 2, 1929, in Seminole, Okla., to J. John Downey and Charley Gober Downey, he grew up in Wink, and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1954. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, 508th Airborne, during the Korean War. He taught math and coached boys and girls athletics in both Boerne Junior High and Boerne high schools and math in Bandera High School. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Ann; his sons, Patrick Timothy, and his wife, Schelly Radcliff-Downey, and their children, Shelby Radcliff, April Downey, Evan Downey, and Kelly Radcliff; John Daniel, and his wife, Tammy Nivens Downey, and their children, Andy Garcia, Aubrey Garcia, and Autumn Downey; and Sean Kelly and his wife, Deborah Sharp Downey. A funeral service will be held Today, at 7 p.m. in San Antonio at Northminster Presbyterian Church located at 6800 Tezel Road. A reception will follow. Directions to the location of the reception will be given at the funeral service.
