The Alamo Heights Police Department is now taking applications for the Citizens’ Police Academy and the Youth Police Academy. The Citizens’ Police Academy is a 10-week program starting March 8. The classes are scheduled for Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The program is designed to provide citizens an understanding of the operation of the police department. The program includes presentations by AHPD officers and guest speakers, facility tours and police-ride-along programs. Participants should be 18 or older and out of high school. The Youth Police Academy is also a 10-week program beginning March 8. The classes will be held on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The program is a police services awareness course developed for any students enrolled in a public or private high school in the Alamo Heights district. In addition to AHPD officers and guest speakers, students will also get a chance to participate in a variety of hands-on activities, police scenario training and police ride-along programs.
